I've been writing for a long time. Not quite as long as I can remember, but certainly for a lot more of my life than I haven't been writing. I was enthralled by great stories growing up, in books, on tv, and film, and I wanted to create my own. Whether or not they're great is up to others to decide, but certainly the act of putting words to paper (or screen), and creating characters and worlds has been a great experience.
It's also been a very useful one.
Aside from being a great joy in and of itself, hobbyist writing served me well as I entered adult life. In the working world, and especially when I became an educator, I've prepared pamphlets and programs, written instructional materials, created flyers for events, and edited more essays, resumes, stories, and cover letters than I can count. As a political activist, and a concerned citizen I've authored many essays and blog posts and created informational brocheures for organizations. And I can do the same for you.
